Dr. Epperla is an associate professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Hematologic Malignancies at the Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah. He earned his medical degree in India before relocating to the United States, where he completed his internal medicine residency and served as Chief Resident at Marshfield Clinic. Dr. Epperla subsequently completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he also obtained a master’s degree in Clinical and Translational Science. He has received numerous honors from professional societies including the American Society of Hematology (ASH), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT).
Dr. Epperla’s clinical and translational research focuses on early-phase clinical trials in lymphoid malignancies, with an emphasis on novel drug combinations, relapse mitigation strategies following CAR T-cell therapy, and identification of predictive blood-based biomarkers. He is involved in multiple investigator-initiated, cooperative group, and industry-sponsored clinical trials.
He is an active member of ASH, ASCO, ASTCT, and the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), and contributes to the CIBMTR lymphoma committee. Dr. Epperla has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications and regularly reviews for leading medical journals including The New England Journal of Medicine, Blood, JAMA Oncology, and Blood Advances.
