Dr. Costello is a hematologist and medical oncologist at UC San Diego Health specializing in the treatment of hematologic malignancies, including multiple myeloma, lymphoma, and leukemia. She is a member of the UC San Diego Health–Sharp HealthCare Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program, which provides integrated care across all phases of treatment, from diagnosis through transplant and survivorship.
Dr. Costello has clinical expertise in plasma cell disorders, including multiple myeloma, Waldenström macroglobulinemia, and systemic amyloidosis. She is actively involved in clinical trials aimed at optimizing treatment strategies and expanding therapeutic options in these diseases. Her research focuses on novel agents, combination regimens, and precision medicine approaches that tailor treatment to the molecular and genetic features of individual malignancies.
She offers chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy for adults with relapsed or refractory B-cell lymphomas, utilizing engineered immune cells to target and eliminate cancer. Dr. Costello also participates in trials investigating emerging personalized therapies across a range of blood cancers.
Dr. Costello completed her fellowship in hematology-oncology, with a focus on bone marrow transplantation, at UC San Diego School of Medicine. She completed her internal medicine residency at Weill Cornell Medical College, New York–Presbyterian Hospital, and earned her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. She is board certified in internal medicine and hematology.
