Binod Dhakal, MD

About Dr. Dhakal

Dhakal is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he specializes in the treatment of multiple myeloma and other plasma cell disorders. A dedicated clinician and clinical researcher, Dr. Dhakal focuses on designing and conducting early-phase clinical trials to evaluate novel drug therapies for patients with these complex hematologic malignancies.

Dr. Dhakal earned his medical degree from Manipal College of Medical Sciences in Pokhara, Nepal, in 2004. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois, followed by a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he also served as Chief Fellow. Prior to beginning his fellowship, he held a faculty appointment as Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the same institution.

In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Dhakal has made significant contributions to the field through research and education. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, meeting abstracts, and book chapters. His academic excellence has been recognized with multiple awards, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Merit Award, the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals (MCWAH) Research Award, and the Central Society for Clinical and Translational Research (CSCTR) Best Oral Abstract and Travel Trainee Award. He is also a past recipient of the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASBMT) Clinical Research Training Course Award and was honored with the Outstanding Medical School Teacher Award.

Dr. Dhakal further advanced his expertise by earning a Master’s degree in Clinical and Translational Science. He was also awarded the Mazie Froedtert Willms and Sue Froedtert Cancer Scholarship in recognition of his research promise. His work continues to focus on improving outcomes for patients with multiple myeloma through innovative clinical research and compassionate care.
